Sports Hall Radiant Heating Solution
Powrmatic delivered a modern, energy-efficient heating solution for the sports hall at Bedford Girls’ School, replacing an outdated and failing system with a continuous radiant heating installation. Working alongside Vortex Engineering Solutions, the project introduced advanced SRP continuous PCV burners to significantly improve comfort, efficiency, and system reliability across the facility.
The existing heating system had reached the end of its operational life, with frequent breakdowns and inconsistent heat distribution affecting comfort levels throughout the sports hall, particularly during colder months of the year. With a sports hall measuring 33m by 18m, the school required a modern solution capable of delivering even heat coverage, improving efficiency, reducing maintenance issues, and incorporating an updated flue layout alongside improved system controls.
Powrmatic designed and supplied a complete radiant tube replacement using a continuous heating system from the Powrmatic PCV range, incorporating SRP continuous PCV burners to deliver high performance and energy efficiency. The system included two 35kW and two 29kW burners and was expertly installed by Vortex Engineering Solutions, with a redesigned flue layout, smart controls integration, and protective ball guards. Powrmatic’s PCV and PCV+ systems are listed on the Energy Technology List, achieving over 90% Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency, significantly exceeding the minimum ErP standard of 74% and supporting lower energy use and reduced carbon emissions.
The upgraded system now provides instant radiant heat, ensuring the sports hall for Bedford School Girls warms quickly and maintains consistent comfort levels across the entire space during colder periods of use. Heat is distributed evenly throughout the 33m by 18m hall, improving usability while also delivering greater energy efficiency, reduced running costs, and a reliable, easy-to-control heating solution for long-term performance.
