  • “Having used Powrmatic heaters in the past we knew that they would provide the quality and reliability that LTC required. They were also very supportive throughout the project, from initial heat load calculations through to final commissioning.”

Project Background

LTC Training Services offers over 40 courses for access training, held in its 500m2 purpose-built scaffolding training centre. With a roof height of over 10m and metal clad construction, the building was proving uncomfortably cold for trainees during the winter so the company decided to install a heating system. They also decided to make use of the offcuts from scaffold boards that had been repaired, by using them for fuel.

“A plentiful supply of waste wood made biomass an obvious fuel choice for this project, particularly as the company was paying for the disposal of the offcuts,” explained FairEnergy’s Fred Thomson. “In addition, it enables LTC to receive payments through the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI), as well as reducing the company’s environmental impact,” he added.

Project Solution

Powrmatic supplied suspended warm air heaters and destratification fans to LTC Training Services in Plymouth, part of LTC Group87 Ltd. The training service centre heating solutions are supplied by a new biomass heating system specified and installed by Exeter-based renewable energy specialists FairEnergy.

Project Result

The two new 60kW log boilers supply hot water to three Powrmatic low temperature hot water suspended heaters, using the units’ powerful axial fans to deliver efficient heat distribution. They are complemented by two CECx destratification fans to further enhance circulation and prevent build-up of hot air at the top of the building. The destratification fans can also be used during the summer to improve air circulation.

To accommodate the new boilers a plant room was constructed adjacent to the training centre using a scaffold framework and metal cladding’s to ensure that it matched the rest of the building.
