The new premises was specifically developed to manufacture paper straws for the restaurant business. One of their key customers Mr John Park of McDonalds and Invest NI CEO Mr Alastair Hamilton and General Manager Mr Ciaran Doherty of Huhtamaki opened the building following the £12m investment stating they would see all their UK and Ireland restaurants using these straws this year phasing out plastic straws.

Project Background

It was a timely announcement given Rt Hon Michael Gove Environment Secretary gave notice that same week of restrictions on many plastics including straws commencing April 2020. The investment saw 100 new job created at the facility that needed a Distribution & Racked Warehouse Heating Solution.

Project Solution

From December 2018 BS Holdings Ltd the foremost leading agent in N Ireland for Powrmatic, developed the designs needed using the Powrmatic LNVx range of heaters and Destratification fans.

Project Result

The highly secretive production facility using state of the art manufacturing equipment found nowhere else in Europe, was challenging at times. The heating systems worked a treat and maintain an even temperature both in the production facility and raw materials stores.

BS Holdings also maintain their fleet of heaters including Powrmatic’s at Huhtamaki’s head office in Belfast. Where they manufacture packaging for MacDonald’s and KFC amongst many others.
