Advanced Manufacturing Facility Electric Radiant Heating - Progressive Technology Group

SRP Electric Radiant Heating

Powrmatic provided an electric radiant heating solution using SRP technology for the manufacturing facility at Progressive Technology Group, a UK specialist in advanced CNC machining, composites and additive manufacturing for aerospace, motorsport and defence sectors. Installed by Clean Air Group, the system serves a high-ceilinged production area with fixed workstations, delivering operator comfort during cold conditions without the inefficiency of heating the entire building volume.

  • “SRP is delighted to have supported Powrmatic and Clean Air Group on this project at Progressive Technology Group. The SWave medium-wave radiant heaters, paired with the MC200 control system, deliver comfortable, efficient heat directly where it’s needed in a high-ceilinged manufacturing environment. This installation highlights the real benefits of radiant heating for applications where traditional space heating simply cannot perform as effectively or economically.”

Project Background

Manufacturing environments present unique heating challenges due to large internal volumes, high roof heights and intermittent occupancy patterns. Conventional warm air systems often struggle to deliver comfort at floor level and can waste energy by heating unused air at ceiling height. Progressive Technology Group required a solution that could deliver warmth directly to operators, respond quickly to demand and support an electrically driven heating strategy. Powrmatic supplied two 5 kW SRP SWave electric radiant heaters, with installation carried out by Clean Air Group. To ensure accurate control of comfort conditions, the system was fitted with an SRP MC200 controller and MC200 Black Bulb Sensor, enabling the heaters to respond to the combined effect of air temperature and radiant heat experienced by occupants.

Project Solution

Powrmatic specified SRP SWave high-efficiency electric radiant heaters to provide effective spot heating at operator locations. Rather than heating the full building volume, the system was designed to focus warmth only where it was required. SWave operates in the medium-wave infrared range with an element temperature below 1050 degrees Celsius, producing a less intense heat than short-wave heaters and creating a more comfortable environment for prolonged working periods. This medium-wave output provides low glare and safe levels of infrared radiation suitable for continuous occupational exposure, while still delivering rapid warm-up. With approximately 90 percent radiant efficiency, energy is directed into people and surfaces rather than being lost heating the air near the ceiling. The MC200 control system measures radiant conditions using the Black Bulb Sensor and modulates heater output to maintain stable comfort while optimising energy use.

Project Result

The installation has delivered effective and reliable warmth to operators during cold conditions, improving comfort without the need to heat the entire manufacturing hall. The SRP SWave system supplied by Powrmatic has provided targeted comfort at workstations, reduced energy waste compared with conventional space heating and lower operating costs through high radiant efficiency and intelligent control. The medium-wave radiant output has created a more comfortable working environment than short-wave alternatives, supporting productivity without excessive glare or heat intensity.

For manufacturers facing high ceilings, intermittent occupancy, rising energy costs and electrification constraints, radiant heating offers a highly cost-effective alternative to traditional space heating. SRP’s SWave medium-wave technology, supplied by Powrmatic and controlled via the MC200 system, demonstrates how modern electric radiant heating can deliver efficient, comfortable and future-ready heating in demanding industrial environments.
