Powrmatic, part of the Carver Group, is proud to announce the successful installation of the first-ever AirRoteX-H Hybrid Heat Pump Air Rotation Unit at our Somerset warehouse — a landmark moment for the future of large-scale building climate control. This project was delivered in close collaboration with our sister company Cooltherm, whose expertise in high-performance heat pumps ensured the system design achieved the highest levels of efficiency and sustainability. The system was installed by our trusted install partners at Tidyco.

This revolutionary new solution has been designed to transform how warehouses, logistics centres, and distribution facilities are heated and conditioned. By combining Powrmatic’s trusted air rotation technology, proven over 40 years, with the latest in Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) innovation, the AirRoteX-H delivers a new standard in performance, flexibility, and sustainability.

Innovative Hybrid Technology

The installed system at our Somerset facility combines:

  • A 90kW gas burner
  • Two 75kW coils within the internal air rotation unit
  • A 150kW external ASHP

The warehouse itself measures 50m x 50m x 8m, with a design temperature requirement of +18°C to -5°C. With a building u-value of 0.35 W/m², this equates to a calculated heat loss of around 127kW, alongside an air movement requirement of 1.2 changes per hour at 7.5m³/s.

This new hybrid system integrates a 90 kW gas-fired burner and a 150 kW external heat pump, designed to operate together for optimal performance. By using both heat sources in harmony, building owners gain full flexibility to manage energy costs, carbon reduction targets, and operational demands. For instance, the gas burner can quickly raise the building’s temperature, while the heat pump simultaneously supports and maintains efficient heating throughout the day.

Decarbonising Large Spaces

With growing demands for decarbonisation and improved EPC ratings, the AirRoteX-H represents a step-change for industrial climate control. Large warehouses and distribution centres often face challenges with cost, supply limitations, and ducted system inefficiencies.

The AirRoteX-H overcomes these challenges by:

  • Offering complete climate control without the high costs of full-electric solutions.
  • Eliminating the need for internal ductwork — reducing installation and maintenance costs.
  • Providing floor-level equipment access with minimal building penetrations.
  • Delivering a customisable and bespoke solution for architects, consultants, designers, and engineers working on decarbonisation projects.

Cooltherm – Innovation in Heat Pump Technology

Cooltherm, also part of the Carver Group, played a vital role in the AirRoteX-H project by supporting the selection and integration of the external heat pump system. Established in 1992, Cooltherm has become one of the UK’s leading specialists in high-efficiency chillers and heat pumps, renowned for delivering sustainable and reliable solutions across commercial and industrial projects. Their expertise complements Powrmatic’s air rotation technology perfectly, ensuring the AirRoteX-H achieves outstanding energy performance while helping building owners meet their decarbonisation targets.

A Milestone for Powrmatic

Speaking on the significance of this innovation, Stuart Parris, Powrmatic Sales Director, said:

“The AirRoteX-H is a milestone for Powrmatic and for the future of HVAC in large-scale buildings. By combining our proven air rotation technology with hybrid heat pump innovation, we are offering a practical, flexible, and future-ready solution for decarbonising warehouses and distribution centres. It’s not just a product launch — it’s a landmark in our commitment to Net Zero, and a testament to the skill and dedication of our staff who have made this breakthrough possible.”
