Retirement Development Ventilation System
Gladwell Lodge, a newly constructed three-storey retirement apartment development, required a ventilation solution that balanced owner comfort with fire safety. To meet these needs, Churchill Living partnered with Powrmatic to deliver a tailored ventilation system designed for everyday use and emergency response.
Churchill Living is a specialist UK developer focused on creating high-quality, purpose-built retirement apartments. Their developments are designed to provide comfort, security, and independence for older people, with careful attention to safety, accessibility, and building performance. At Gladwell Lodge, one of their latest projects, the design called for a corridor ventilation system that would ensure continuous natural airflow while also supporting smoke ventilation in compliance with fire safety regulations. The solution had to integrate seamlessly with the building’s aesthetic and meet strict building control requirements.
Powrmatic supplied three Krystalite Glazed Louvred Natural and Smoke Ventilators, each measuring 1257mm wide by 2003mm high. Installed across all three floors of the building, the units are manually operated for daily natural ventilation in the corridors. In the event of a fire, the manual handles can be used by emergency services to introduce air into the building, aiding positive pressure ventilation strategies. Each ventilator was fitted with fall arrest bars to comply with current safety regulations, and finished externally in RAL7016 to match the building’s façade.
The ventilation system supplied by Powrmatic provided Gladwell Lodge with a reliable, regulation-compliant solution that enhances both air quality and fire safety. Churchill Living’s attention to detail, supported by high-performance equipment, ensures that residents benefit from a comfortable and secure environment tailored to the needs of retirement living.
