Industrial Unit Heating - Tidyco Rail Overhaul Facility

Industrial Unit Heating Heating Solution

Powrmatic was selected to supply an energy-efficient, space-saving industrial unit heating solution in the Midlands for our own customer at Tidyco Ltd for their newly renovated 5,300 ft² rail overhaul facility using an LX50kW suspended unit heater and CECx destratification fans, replacing an existing floor standing heating system. The heater was part-funded by the De-Carbonised project which supports their low carbon journey.

  • “This British-made product comes with a range of benefits, which made it the most viable and attractive solution, such as low NOx emissions, ErP compliant and its ability to heat large open spaces.”

David Hithersay - Tidyco, Climate Control Divisional Director

Project Background

Tidyco is a leading, multi-divisional supplier of hydraulics and pneumatics and a long-term supplier to the rail industry. In addition, our other division includes on-site emergency hydraulic hose repair. Commercial and industrial electrical services, HVAC services and a mobile auto electrical division. Tidyco has recently acquired an adjoining 5,300 ft2 building, which required significant renovations to make the unit fit for its purpose with a new industrial unit heating solution. The requirement was to replace the previous floor-standing system. The new heater needed to avoid using floor space and be powerful and efficient enough to heat the wide-open space. The heater was part-funded by the De-Carbonised project, which supports their low carbon journey through Derby City Council’s De-Carbonise initiative.

Project Solution

As part of the renovation for the rail overhual facility, the mezzanine floor was removed to make space for the gantry crane. This created the issue of having a large, open space, which the existing heating system was not capable of heating and therefore required replacing.  When the project was surveyed, one particular product stuck out above the rest; that was the Powrmatic LX 50kW suspended gas heater. Another particular feature, which made this product stand out was its flue system capability. Due to there being PV panels on the roof, it was uncertain as to whether directing the flue through the roof was an option. As the LX has a rear flue exit, this facilitated the possibility of routing the flue pipe through the wall. To further improve efficiency we utilised high-level energy-saving destratification fans, which improved air distribution and reduced running costs along with state of the art optimising controls.

Project Result

Using the LX unit suspended unit heater, The revamped industrial unit heating system now benefits from a reliable heater providing a warm and comfortable working environment for workers with energy-saving fans and optimising controls. This British-made LX heater comes with a range of benefits, which made it the most viable and attractive solution, such as low NOx emissions, ErP compliant and its ability to heat large open spaces.
