Powrmatic Product Launch

NVS Condensing Gas Fired Unit Heaters

Available from mid February 2010,  Powrmatic, the leading manufacturer of industrial spaceheaters, is launching a brand new range of suspended condensing gas fired unit heaters designed to deliver high performance, environmental benefits and significantly reduce running costs.

According to Powrmatic's Phil Brompton: "It is estimated that around 18 % of the world's CO2 emissions result from non-condensing boilers and heaters. As part of the effort to reduce global warming the Government has already implemented legislation which makes condensing domestic boilers mandatory as well as putting in place legislation which obliges certain sections of the commercial boiler sector to apply similar technology.

"Whilst no such legislation exists to oblige warm air heaters to conform to condensing technology Powrmatic recognises the need to act responsibly and has proactively introduced a range of suspended gas fired unit heaters - the NVS range.

"Environmental responsibility is a key driver for Powrmatic but there is also an acknowledgement that legislative pressure will almost certainly force condensing technology on the UK market within five years," he says.

"The environmental and cost benefits are extremely encouraging. While condensing heaters will be marginally more expensive to purchase, the increased efficiency levels result in significantly lower fuel costs. The level of savings is such that the incremental capital cost of the unit would be more than recovered within one year," says Brompton.

Annual CO2 savings for a 120 kw condensing gas fired warm air heater, operating for, say, 10 hours per day, 5.5 days per week for a typical heating season are as follows:

• Saving between a condensing heater and a heater which meets CE efficiency levels = 6500 kgs of CO2 per year.

• Saving between a condensing heater and a heater which meets ECA efficiency levels = 3900 kgs of CO2 per year.

Using the example above the cost benefits based on commercial gas tariffs in October 2009 would be:

•Saving between a condensing heater and a heater which meets CE efficiency levels = £3000 per year

• Saving between a condensing heater and a heater which meets ECA efficiency levels = £1800 per year

Another compelling argument for the end user to update to a new condensing warm air heater is that the units qualify for tax breaks under the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme (ECA) and interest free loans operated by the Carbon Trust.

The Powrmatic NVS range of condensing gas fired unit heaters with outputs from 30 - 140 kW is based upon the company's well proven NV range and has the benefit of a secondary non-ferrous plate heat exchanger which turns the residual heat within the flue gases (lost in a conventional heater) into useful heat thereby increasing the rate of heat transfer into the warm air stream and with a commensurate reduction in flue gas temperatures.

The process of increased heat transfer lowers the flue gas temperature to below dew point and as a consequence liquid condensate is produced. The condensate is collected within the heater and taken to a drain point for safe onward removal. NVS heaters can be operated on either natural gas or lpg propane.

The new range can be fitted with either axial fans, which discharge heat directly into the space where the heaters are installed, or centrifugal fans, which allow the onward connection of inlet and/or discharge duct systems.

A stainless steel flue gas collector, built within the heater, separates the flue gases which are safely evacuated via a flue fan from the condensate which is then taken to a drain point external to the heater casing, for onward connection by the installer. Apart from this, installation procedures are identical to the conventional non-condensing heater. Controls are the same as those generally fitted to non-condensing heaters.

"Powrmatic has looked towards the future and decided to launch the NVS range ahead of the game. The savings in both energy and running costs are incontrovertible and the levels of efficiency are superlative," concludes Brompton.

The units are covered by a two-year parts and labour guarantee.
