Following installation of a Powrmatic PTUL Radiant Tube Heater, specialist fabric supplier Boyriven has been able to reduce heating bills while improving temperature control in occupied areas. The Powrmatic heater was specified and installed by heating engineers Andover Gas Engineers Ltd.
Boyriven is an independent supplier of fabrics to the automotive, marine and interior/contract upholstery sectors with its headquarters in Andover, Hampshire. Originally the 7484m2 building, with an apex height of 8.1m, was heated using Powrmatic warm air heaters.
The installation was carried out on a Friday to minimise production downtime.
In recent years the building usage has changed so that it was no longer necessary to heat the whole building, whilst the heating of the occupied working areas was insufficient. This led to the use of costly floor-standing electric heaters to heat the working areas and benches.
To improve the heating for staff while reducing energy consumption overall, Andover Gas Engineers Ltd specified spot radiant heating to serve just the occupied areas. The heater has been installed sufficiently high that fork lift trucks can still operate beneath it and access high racking.

It has also been positioned to ensure that the radiant heat isn’t ‘shaded out’ by the racking, so that the staff are bathed in radiant heat within around three minutes of switching the heater on. This is facilitated by the use of aluminium reflectors on Powrmatic PTUL radiant tube heaters to maximise the downward radiant heating effect.

Powrmatic’s PTUL U-tube linear radiant heaters are available with input ratings from15kW to 94kW. They feature a heat treated, aluminised and calorised emitter tube surface, ensuring a clean and flake-free environment. This was a key consideration for Boyriven, as any flakes would damage the fabrics being worked on beneath the heater.
The result of the project is that Boyriven now has a cost-effective heating solution that ensures heat is supplied precisely to where it is needed, with no waste. This has enabled the company to reduce its heating bills and carbon emissions without compromising on the comfort of staff.
